Workshop - Join Us or Host your Own
Theme: Understanding Bias

Our Complimentary Workshop

Each year, we celebrate Conflict Resolution day by hosting a complimentary workshop (virtual).

This year's theme: Understanding Bias

More on our workshop:  Mind Your Own Bias

Canada is a proud nation that is inclusive of diverse perspectives. Unfortunately, at times, we may find ourselves at odds with each other. Whether it be region to region or neighbor to neighbor, it is becoming seemingly difficult to find common ground. Situations and events that have had the potential to unify us have instead polarized us, leaving us divided. This division is further compounded by technology which can enhance the wedge that keeps us from seeing, hearing and understanding perspectives outside of our own. This wedge may be magnified by our biases, which can be unconscious. We all have biases, and their roots are complex. By understanding our own biases and how they're formed we can be proactive and prevent conflict.

Minding our bias can teach us how to welcome diverse perspectives, close the distance between perspectives, and find common ground with our neighbors again.  Our workshop will shed understanding of biases, clarifying when a bias may be in play and offer tangible skills that help participants move from recognition to recovery. With this understanding, you will be able to communicate with each other in a way that sheds light on the perspectives that are gained from clear communication.

Note: The materials presented on Conflict Resolution day are intended for adults, however, they can be adapted for use of all ages.
