Conflict Resolution Day 2011
Assumptions

Picture
Summary

Have you ever found yourself in a conversation which escalated into conflict due to a misunderstanding? Have you ever made an assumption about a person or situation, or had an assumption made about you? We are all unique individuals who view the world through different lenses based on our past experiences. This difference in our perceptions, and the subsequent assumptions we make, can lead to misunderstandings and conflict.

Have you ever made an assumption about a person or situation, or had an assumption made about you? We are all unique individuals who view the world through different lenses based on our past experiences. This difference in our perceptions, and the subsequent assumptions we make, can lead to misunderstandings and conflict. In this fun and interactive session, you will learn about the role our perspectives and perceptions play in communication. Mediation can be a useful tool in a number of contexts; at places of work, in neighbourhood and home environments. Individuals in law-related settings, health and human resources sectors, therapeutic and social services, employee family assistance programs and commerce can benefit from the session. It provides you with an opportunity to develop an individual viewpoint about mediation. Key objectives are to help prepare you to manage conflict efficiently and effectively. The session blends knowledge and practice to assist in developing your awareness about how to deescalate conflict. It is important to separate humans from their deeds and to recognize their inherent dignity (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights). You are encouraged to participate in this session and to share your experiences and/or insights with others.
